Missing teeth is not a new issue, but the good news is that tooth loss can be a thing of the past due to modern tooth replacement options. Dentures can be lifechanging for patients who are missing multiple or all of their teeth. If you are thinking about investing in dentures, it pays to know more about how the process goes and how long it will take till you have your new false teeth. Continue reading to learn more.

How Long Does the Process Take?

The number of appointments required until you have your dentures depends on numerous different factors. The main thing that you need to consider is whether or not you have teeth or tooth roots that need to be extracted. If you aren’t in need of either of those, you can probably expect to see your dentures in about 3 to 4 appointments.

What Is the Process for Getting Dentures?

As much as you’d like to be in an out of the office with a new smile, it doesn’t work that way. Here are the different steps of the process:

Teeth Extractions

This isn’t required for every patient, but many are in need to have remaining teeth extracted from their mouth. After the procedure, the mouth will need several months to heal. Then, you and your dentist can move on with the next step.

Sizing

The first step when it comes to creating dentures is getting impressions of the ridges for your mouth. Measurements will also be taken to ensure that the bite pattern is correct. This process may also include a wax mockup of the prosthetic teeth so the dentist can ensure that the dentures will fit correctly.

Adjustments

Each time that you visit the dental office, the mockup will need adjustments to ensure that the dentures will match the patient’s facial features. Your prosthetic teeth will need to be the right length and width so that you don’t end up with an unwanted altered appearance.

Denture Placement

Your dentures will be placed as soon as the final adjustments are complete. Sometimes, you may need additional adjustments made for optimal comfort and functionality. By communicating with your dentist about the fit of your dentures and any discomfort that you may have, any appropriate changes can be made.

You won’t get your dentures overnight, but having a new smile that fits comfortably in your mouth will be well worth the short wait.
